Richard Boulay, MD

 

Richard M. Boulay, MD, is a board certified gynecologic oncologist specializing in the care of women with pelvic malignancies. He attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and graduated Cum Laude with acceptance into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Postgraduate education included a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Magee-Women's Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh and a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center at the Penn State College of Medicine.

 

Professional honors have included CREOG National Teaching Awards, Felix Rutledge Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Berlex Faculty Development Course. His publications can be found in the New England Journal of Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, and Clinics of North America.

 

Dr. Boulay currently holds the position of Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In addition to a busy clinical service, he is Primary Investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology Group research consortium at Lehigh Valley Hospital, co-chairs the Institutional Review Board at Lehigh Valley Hospital, and serves on the Board of Governors for the Lehigh Valley Physician's Group as well as regional boards of the American Cancer Society and the Wellness Community.

"I cherish the many gifts I have been fortunate to receive during my short lifetime on this planet. Blessed with the gift of curiosity, I am a constant learner and seeker of hidden connections and meanings. In my work life, this translates into a board certification in Gynecologic Oncology, always trying to improve the quality of my patient's lives through research, education, and clinical practice. At home, my restless brain leads me into continuous challenges of furniture making, classical singing, skiing, sailing, and history.
 

I find refuge from a chaotic world in important relationships of past and present. The courage of my patients who battle cancer daily inspires me to keep going even when there seems to be no more hope left. I find optimism in the memory of my Grandmaman, who never searched for words of encouragement. A trusted high school teacher's mantra, "It's all ahead of you, dear" is still true even at age 45 and probably will be at age 75. My wife, as constant as the north star, is always there, ever doing, consistently dependable, grounds my frenzied work life. And the unconditional love of my daughters stops the world cold to search for constellations and share the tickle of butterfly kisses."
